The Christmas tree is an assembly of valves and accessories used for fluid control in oil and gas wells and to provide an inlet for the production tubing string. It includes all equipment above the flange on the oil pipe head. The Christmas tree assembly can be applied in various different combinations to meet the needs of any special purpose. According to different functions, Christmas trees can be divided into specialized wellhead devices such as oil production (self spraying, artificial lifting), gas production (natural gas and various acidic gases), water injection, thermal recovery, fracturing, acidification, etc. And a series is formed according to the different pressure levels used.

Gas trees and tubing heads are mainly used for gas production and injection. Due to the low relative density of natural gas and the low pressure of the gas column, the wellhead pressure of both gas production and gas injection is high, the flow rate is high, and it is prone to leakage. Sometimes, corrosive media such as HS and CO may be present in natural gas, so there must be stricter requirements for the sealing and material of the gas tree. Sometimes, for safety reasons, dual valves are used for both oil and casing. For some high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure gas wells, valves are made of high-quality steel and forged as a whole.
